Powerman Zofingen society general assembly

The Powerman Zofingen society is on track to get rid of its financial burden of the past. To secure Powerman Zofingen’s future, however, a budget extension is mandatory. The Powerman Zofingen steering committee consists of eight members, newly there are two women on board.

Stefan Ruf, Powerman Zofingen’s chairman made a review of last year’s event. There he looked back on the ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships comeback. „It was fantastic to welcome 430 participants for the World Championships Long Distance race, but I am convinced we would have reached a 20% increase of participants also without the World Championships status.“ The amount of athlethes from more than 30 countries however should definitely be accredited to the World Championships status at the 23rd Powerman Zofingen edition from last year. „Powerman Zofingen is the only sport event of an olympic confederation with World Championships status within Canton Aargau.“

Lots of voluntary work
„Sincere thanks to the organizational committee und all the 700 helpers for their great voluntary support“ says Ruf. To bring the event to a World Championships level, head of sponsoring Peter Wirz and his team had to secure more than CHF 400‘000. In the end, a positive balancing was achieved thanks to an adamant budget discipline of the heads of department.

This goes well with Rufs motto 525+. „For the 25th anniversary we want to report a positive equity and reach an amount of 500 World Championships Long Distance participants.“

Women on board
The formula for success could be a mixture between tradition and innovation. The mass start will be kept for the ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships. Although this will lead to three different categories and therefore three award ceremonies – for elite athletes, ITU Age Group and Powerman Age Group.

The organizational committee is also looking forward to innovative ideas from their two new female members – Gesa Gaiser and Jacqueline Bär, also Artur Sutter was newly elected into the steering committee.
