The World Returns to Muncie for POWERMAN MUNCIE on Saturday 10/2/2010

“After our first conversation with Powerman it was obvious to both parties that Muncie would be an outstanding location for this event. Our international reputation after the ITU World's 1996 event was awesome,” noted Steve Tomboni, CEO of Muncie Multi-Sport and RD for the world’s and USAT LC National’s in ’02. “It is one of the best venues in America for this type of race. Prairie Creek is an outstanding course that features the perfect 20k lap around the lake with rolling hills and is a challenging run course considered by many to be difficult.”

Powerman International and Muncie Multi-Sport, Inc. will invite all of the top 10 rated men and women duathletes globally to race in a series of events which will include three duathlons:

The Powerman Muncie event will be the final event for the Muncie Multi-Sport company in 2010. It will be preceded by a series of races that include the Muncie May Duathlon on May 15th followed by triathlon, duathlon and 5k/10k run events scheduled for June 12th, August 7th and September 4th. Prairie Creek Reservoir will be the site for all of these events.

“Muncie Multi-Sport is proud to have Powerman International join the family of events planned in Muncie for the spring, summer and fall of 2010,” said Tammy Tomboni, co-owner of Muncie Multi-Sport, Inc. “We are excited to once again invite athletes from across the globe to Muncie for Powerman. Our community came together as never before in 1996 and the display of hoosier hospitality was indeed remembered by all the athletes who attended.” The event was awarded the 1996 International Race of the Year by the ITU.
The field for the Powerman Muncie event will be limited to the first 800 duathletes registered. Steve Tomboni explained, “We will keep the first year of Powerman Muncie limited to measure the impact of that many athletes on the course and review all safety measures before allowing the field to grow in the coming years of our contract with Powerman International.” That contract extends through the events scheduled for 2012.
Muncie Multi-Sport plans to have a week long series of events that will include a sports equipment trade show on October 1st at the Horizon Convention Center. Powerman Muncie on Saturday will feature the non professional events starting at 8am and the professional event beginning at 1pm. Tentative plans call for a PowerKids duathlon for ages 8-14 on Sunday. The start and finish for Powerman Muncie 2010 and all of the other Muncie Multi-Sport events will be Prairie Creek Reservoir.
