The field with 50 female participants is one largest ever at Powerman Zofingen 2009 and it knows one big favorite: Erika Csomor has won the last five long-distance events in a row in Zofingen, what is a record, and she comes back to the start. This is especially thanks to the personal efforts and good relations of OC President Stefan whow overruled the Hungarian after a number of phone calls. "I had prior to the Challenge Roth a knee injury and could not best practice," said the 35-year-old from Budapest. She finished at the biggest long distance triathlon of the world in 8:59:42 as the fourth-still in a fantastic time and is one of only three women with two and more sub 9 h finishes. The Hungarian trains each summer in Leysin, and spends the last three weeks before the Powerman Zofingen in St. Moritz in an altitude training camp, so also this year. "I train up here with several other international athletes in a group." Csomor is now, for the tenth time at the start in Zofingen. In addition to five victories the previous ranking were two 2nd places and a 5th rank. One time Csomor had to give up.
Podium chances are also recognized to Victoria Beck (New Zealand, winner of several Powerman series races), Ulrike Schwalbe (Germany, ITU LD Duathlon World Champion 2004, winner of many Powerman races), Silvie Quittet (France, winner of Duathlon Val d Aran 2009), Michelle Parsons (England, at Powerman Zofingen 2005 Place 10, 2006 and 2007 5th place), Camilla Lindholm (Sweden, vice European Champion 2009) and Elina Ussher (New Zealand, the wife of Richard Ussher, one of the most famous adventure racer).
Chances for a podium has also Maja Jacober. The swiss athlete finished in the years 2006 to 2008 on rank 3, and is so far the only female participant, whith ten or more finishes on the long distance, an is member of the Jubilee Club (ten times fisher of the long distance). The reward: a golden pin.
On a good day, even Swiss National team member Jacqueline Uebelhardt can be expected in a top position. From the Triclub Zofingen is Nicole Frey at the start, an from the Tri Club Solothurn Sandra Tschumi.
