Powerman Vlaanderen in Geel, Belgium
The winners of this year's hot Powerman Vlaanderen in Geel, are Belgium Rob Woestenborghs (BEL) and Susanne Svendsen (DEN). Woestenborghs was in 2:33:23 37 seconds even faster than last year's winner Le Duey. The base of his victory, the Belgian set with a brilliant start to the first two track sections. In the final 10-kilometer run, he could then take it easy with just eight best times. This Woestenborghs also become a serious enemy of his fellow countryman Joerie Vansteelant (he started not in Geel) when it comes to Powerman Zofingen for the World Championship title.
Danish victory in the women’s race
For women, the Dane Susanne Svendsen won by a margin of 17 seconds on the Dutch May Kerstens. Compared to last year the two ladies changed their positions on the podium. Kersten was forth at Powerman Zofingen in 2011 behind Melanie Burke (NZL), Eva Nystrom (SWE) and Erika Csomor (HUN). Rank 3 in Geel went to the Belgian Ilse Geldhof. Unlike men, the best women in Geel were almost four minutes slower this year than last year. In Geel among others Joerie Vansteelant, Melanie Burke, Andy Sutz or Jacqueline Uebelhart were not at the start.
Seasonal peak in Zofingen in four weeks
The next race in the Powerman series takes place on 19 August in the Austrian Weyer in the form of Powerman Austria instead. This is followed on 1/2 September been the highlight of the season, the ITU Long Distance Duathlon World Championships at Powerman Zofingen (www.powerman.ch).
